Dr. Giada Sebastiani MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the McGill University Health Center and a Hepatologist, currently practicing at the Chronic Viral Illness Service and at the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She trained at University of Padua (Italy), University College of London (UK), University of Bordeaux (France), and Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research (McGill University). She is the recipient of a FRSQ Clinical Research Scholarship Junior 1 (Chercheur Boursier Clinicien Junior 1), for 2012–2016 and she received several honours, including the Honorary Membership of Romanian Association for the Study of the Liver. Her main research focus is screening for fatty liver and liver fibrosis in people living with HIV, and implementation of non-invasive diagnostic tools in liver disease, including Fibroscan and serum biomarkers, in place of liver biopsy. Her work as a physician and clinical researcher aims to promote awareness of the burden of fatty liver in people living with HIV and other Canadians at high risk for liver disease and to minimize the use of liver biopsy in Canada.
