Alexandra de Pokomandy
Principal Investigator
Dr. Alexandra de Pokomandy MDCM MSc, is an assistant professor at the McGill University Health Center and a family physician specialized in HIV patient care since 2003, currently practicing at the Immunodeficiency Service of the Montreal Chest Institute. She completed a Post-Doctoral fellowship in HIV research with the CIHR Canadian HIV Trials Network in 2007 and a Master of Science degree in Epidemiology at McGill University in 2009. She is the recipient of a FRSQ Clinical Research Scholarship Junior 1 (Chercheur Boursier Clinicien Junior 1), for 2011–2015 and is a member of the scientific committee of the FRSQ network “AIDS and Infectious Disease” (Sida-Maladies Infectieuses). Her main interests of research are in cancer related to human papillomavirus (HPV) affecting people living with HIV (particularly regarding the potential prevention of anal cancer), HIV-positive women’s health, and HIV integrated health care. Her work as a physician and researcher aims to recognize patient health concerns and make improvements to clinical practices that will benefit HIV-positive individuals.
Karène Proulx-Boucher
Quebec Provincial Coordinator
Karène completed both her Undergraduate and Master’s degree in Sexology at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM), and is currently a PhD candidate is Sociology at UQAM. Over the last ten years, Karène has been involved in various research projects on women living with HIV, as well as research with perinatally infected youth. She is particularly interested in questions pertaining to disclosure, secret management, how HIV non-disclosure influences family dynamics, and how people living with HIV manage HIV related stigma. Karène is enthusiastic about her new position within the CHIWOS team, and is happy to be continuing her work with women living with HIV.
Christina de Castro
Clinical Research Coordinator
Christina graduated from McGill University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Immunology. She also completed a Graduate Certificate in Management with a concentration in Leadership in 2009 at McGill University. Over the last ten years, Christina has worked in clinical research, both in private and hospital settings. She previously worked at a Contract Research Organization, where she assumed several roles such as Quality Control Coordinator, Communications Coordinator and Clinical Research Assistant. In the hospital setting, she is currently a Clinical Research Coordinator for Dr. Alexandra de Pokomandy in regards to HIV and HPV, as well as, for Dr. Cecilia Costiniuk in the context of pulmonary function and HIV.
